Taking over a new side, especially one that changes so much every summer, cannot be an easy job for any manager, but Walter Mazzarri, so far, has had a rather comfortable start to his Premier League career at Watford.
The Hornets have picked up 12 points from their first nine games, including a surprise 3-1 win against José Mourinho’s Manchester United, and another good season in the top flight looks to be on the cards.
Having managed the likes of Napoli and Inter Milan previously, many expected Mazzarri to be successful, and so far, he’s lived up to expectations.
The 55-year-old was interviewed by Corriere della Serra on Thursday, and asked about his former side Inter Milan, who have had a rollercoaster start to the season under new manager Frank de Boer.
Unsurprisingly, however, the subject of his move to Watford was touched upon, when Mazzarri was asked how his English adventure was going so far.
He said: “The Premier League is a fascinating league. The Pozzo family’s project at Watford appealed to me straight away. I can talk with the president about my style of football, can help the group develop and come away with some satisfaction.
“The day to day stuff here is closer to how I work: the organisation, the respect of rules… In life like in football, winning all stems from rules.”
As for the footballing level: “In the Premier League, it’s difficult to say who will win after eight or nine weeks. It’s competitive but also has a better football culture.”
With Hull City at home next on the agenda, the Italian manager, and the fans, will be expecting an extra three points to be added to the 12 already on the board.
However, as Mazzarri will now be fully aware of, there are no easy games in the Premier League.
