Despite being linked with a move to the Premier League throughout the summer, with clubs like Newcastle and West Ham said to be close (many times) to acquiring his services, there was a lull in the Stefano Sturaro rumours.

However, it wouldn’t have been a proper deadline day without its resurgence, and Watford were the ones claimed to have made the last minute attempt.

On Thursday morning, everything appeared to be going rather well, with his agent telling the Portuguese media the Hornets were ‘among the strongest candidates’ to sign his client.

However, that appears to have completely collapsed, as Goal Italia journalist Romero Agresti claims the negotiations taking the Juventus midfielder to Vicarage Road on a loan with a view to buy have stopped.

This has also been backed up by SportMediaset reporter Giammarco Menga.

Sturaro’s option now appears to be a dry loan to Sporting CP in Portugal, meaning he will most likely return to Juventus next summer, who will undoubtedly try to sell him once again when the time comes.
