When a family owns two clubs, transfer links between them are to be expected.

Both Udinese in Italy and Watford are owned by the Pozzo family, with father Giampaolo running the Serie A side, while son Gino deals with the Premier League club, and a few deals between the two have been made in the past.

One of the main to-and-fros of the past couple of years has been young forward Adalberto Peñaranda, bought for £650k by Udinese in July 2015, sold to Watford in February 2016 for £9.5m and then loaned back to Udinese in July 2016.

According to reports in local newspaper Messaggero Veneto last week, another deal could be struck between the two sides, with a swap deal being the focus of the operation.

The two players involved would be Udinese’s Molla Wague and Watford’s Christian Kabasele.

Wague, who has been linked with a move to West Ham and Southampton in the past, has lived a similar situation to Kabasele, with the pair struggling to find game time at their respective clubs.

Whether a swap deal is a good idea is a big question mark, considering each would just end up taking the other’s backup position at their new club, but that’s what Messaggero Veneto are putting out there.

Kabasele has made 10 appearances for Watford under Walter Mazzarri, scoring one goal, while Wague is currently on loan at Udinese from Granada CF in Spain, which means any decision would actually have to go through the La Liga club first.

The Mali international, who has travelled with his national team for the African Cup of Nations, has so far only played six times for the Serie A club this season.
