Walter Mazzarri has given a very long interview to Corriere dello Sport on Monday about his time at Watford so far, and the Italian manager is pretty happy with how things are going.
Explaining things weren’t that different managing Watford compared to his time at Napoli or Inter Milan, Mazzarri also gave five reasons behind his decision to move to the Premier League, and why Watford in particular.
His first reason was that Gino Pozzo had contacted him three to four times previously, but for ‘one reason or another’ they never got to work together, plus ‘he’s an Italian owner who has the same way of thinking about football’.
Secondly, Mazzarri had ‘nothing left to prove to himself’ in Italy, which leads to the third reason: the Italian manager wanted something new, wanted to find ‘new stimuli’.
Fourthly, when he’d come to England before with his teams in the Champions League, the Italian manager ‘remained fascinated of the atmosphere in English stadiums’ before and during games.
Finally, the last reason was because the Premier League is the ‘most important league in the world, the one with the most coverage’.
As to who can win the actual trophy, Mazzarri appears to be as indecisive as possible. His answer? “The list is long: Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Arsenal.”
