For the past few weeks, it’s all been about Arsenal’s interest in Gonzalo Higuain and their reluctance to meet Napoli’s rather extravagant release clause for the player.

Needing to pay around £79m to sign the 29-year-old, you can understand why Arsène Wenger might want to look elsewhere first before committing to such an amount, and that’s what he’s apparently doing with Mauro Icardi and Alexandre Lacazette.

However, the player’s agent is trying to help his brother find a new club, meaning he’s asking around to see if anyone else is interested.

According to Monday’s edition of Tuttosport, Nicolas Higuain has been in touch with various agents who focus on the Premier League and asked them to see if either Arsenal (we know this already) or Manchester City could be persuaded to pluck Gonzalo from Naples.

As Arsenal shop around for better deals, it seems Pep Guardiola isn’t exactly thrilled about the idea of the goalscorer for his City project, or we’d have heard all about it in the Italian media (front page stuff).

Only a few clubs (mostly in the Premier League) would be able to trigger Higuain’s release clause, and Juventus seem closest as of now, unless Manchester City suddenly feel he’s the right man to share goalscoring responsibilities with Sergio Agüero next season.

Seems things are beginning to be get desperate in southern Italy.
