Readying himself to face Iceland for Portugal’s first game in the 2016 Euros, the last thing on Andre Gomes’ mind right now is probably his club future.
Contracted to Valencia, the Portuguese midfielder is the centre of attention of a battle between Juventus and Manchester United, or so the European media would have you believe.
Valued at €65m by his club, the 22-year-old midfielder has yet to speak properly about his future, but the press around the globe are very happy to do so for him.
Called by TuttoMercatoWeb for a few questions about the midfielder, Portuguese journalist Silvio Vieira, currently in France reporting about the Portugal national team, answered as best he could about where the Valencia starlet could end up.
He said: “There’s been news circulating about Juventus’ interest for Gomes, who is also followed by Mourinho. I think if he had to choose, he would rather go to Manchester United.
“However, in the last few hours there have been no updates because everyone is focused on tonight’s game.”
This is by no means official confirmation the player would actually prefer to team up with José Mourinho at Old Trafford rather than move to Turin with Juventus, but it’s interesting nonetheless.
Journalists are around players a lot of the time, and maybe Mr Vieira heard some Chinese whispers about Gomes.
Either that or he just thinks he’d rather go to United because Mourinho is Portuguese.
