Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest invested heavily in the summer transfer window to improve their squads for this season.
The two Premier League sides failed to secure some of their targets and among them was Inter Milan’s Hakan Çalhanoğlu.
Both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest looked at the 28-year-old in the last window but were disappointed in the end. That’s at least what FcInterNews are reporting.
They state that Eddie Howe’s side and the Tricky Trees made approaches to bring the attacking midfielder to England. This detail is highlighted when discussing his long-term future at the San Siro.
Çalhanoğlu’s contract expires in 2024, with the Serie A side having an option to extended it further by a year. The Nerazzurri are looking at the possibility of renewing his deal until 2026 as they are satisfied with the Turkey international performances.
The former AC Milan star is also happy with his life at Inter, so much so that he did not take into account approaches made by both Newcastle and Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Çalhanoğlu’s agent is expected to arrive in Italy before the World Cup to hold the first round of talks over an extension.
