Tuesday was a very promising day for Liverpool and their fans in the quest to sign Alisson from AS Roma.
News that a bid had been made originated in Italy, and was later confirmed by the English media, but there was still bit of a gap to be bridged before the Reds got their man.
Well, according to Matteo de Santis, a journalist for La Stampa, that might have been sorted overnight, as he reported on his Twitter this morning that Liverpool and Roma had ‘reached an agreement’ in the late hours of Tuesday/early hours of Wednesday for the Brazil international.
While not fully informed on the details, he suggested the likely amount for the transaction would be €75m, broken down to €65m up front with €10m in bonuses.
If that is the case, Alisson is on the verge of becoming the most expensive goalkeeper of all time, eclipsing the previous fee of £34.7m Manchester City had paid Benfica for Ederson
This one isn’t over just yet, but it might be time to start getting the yellow and green bunting out in Liverpool.
Or at least get it down from the loft. Maybe don’t hang it up just yet.
