Liverpool might be one of the more attractive clubs in the world right now, with Jürgen Klopp conducting a bandwagon Merseyside hasn’t seen in decades, yet there are still a select few who resist the urge of jumping aboard when the opportunity presents itself.

One of those is a man named Christoph Winterling, the commercial and marketing director at FC Bologna in Serie A.

According to Corriere dello Sport on Thursday, the German was offered the chance of taking up a similar role with Liverpool, where he would have been in charge of a ‘€200m budget’, but he turned it down.

Why? The Italian newspaper state it was because of Bologna, because of the club’s owner Joey Saputo, because of the city, where he feels that, with time, the club can have a ‘bright future’.

Of course, none of the goals he is aiming for will be comparable to those at Liverpool, but they are ‘equally important’, because just qualifying for a European competition would be an ‘achievement to underline’ for the Italian side.

Since his arrival, Bologna has ‘grown significantly’ in his area of expertise, leading to other sides, such as Inter and Milan wanting him as well.

Either way, Liverpool made an approach, he said no, and now they’ll need to find a new director of marketing elsewhere.
