European fixtures often lead to some cultural differences rocketing up to the surface and Liverpool’s trip to Atalanta tonight has done just that.
That’s at least if Bergamo News are to be believed, with Italians all seemingly confused by Liverpool fans’ failure to wear their club colours.
They explain that there has been ‘very little red’ on show in Bergamo today after Liverpool fans descended on the city to watch their side try and secure another European miracle and come back from their 3-0 defeat last week.
Instead, it seems those fashion conscious Scousers have all travelled in ‘plain clothes’, something that is confusing the local media.
They were clearly expecting a wave of Liverpool shirt clad fans taking over but have instead been treated to North Face, 110s and black caps.
Indeed, some of them have even gone the other way and are wearing Atalanta shirts, caps and bags from the official store, something which has caused even more confusion.
Now, we should probably say this is coming from a country where they will more than happily wear everything and anything from their favourite clubs, which is very much not the case in England.
Liverpool fans have also found themselves being warned in the past about wearing red when they visited Naples and perhaps that has also played it’s part too.
