Given the chance of a move to the Premier League by the well-documented interest Everton had in him towards the end of the transfer window, Napoli’s Manolo Gabbiadini eventually decided to stay.

However, Ronald Koeman wasn’t the only one in England after him.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport on Monday, Leicester also chased the striker, to the extent where they made a €30m offer in the final 48 hours of the transfer window, to which Gabbiadini also said no.

Eventually buying Islam Slimani from Sporting CP in Portugal, a move that has worked out rather well for Leicester so far, it appears Claudio Ranieri went for a scattergun approach when it came to finding a new goalscorer for his team.

Having rejected two Premier League clubs, the 24-year-old, who saw Akradiusz Milik come in following Gonzalo Higuain’s departure when that spot probably should have been his, has only started three games so far this season.

Yet, when the regular starter gets injured, an opportunity for the backup opens, and Gabbiadini now has his chance.

Milik’s injury with Poland on international duty, which could see him miss up to five months of football, is now the perfect opportunity for the Italian to prove staying in Naples was a good decision.

Let’s hope for him it all works out.
