At this stage of the Alexis Sanchez saga, it’s hard to count how many ‘replacements’ for the Chilean are being linked to Arsenal, as many names have been popping up over the past few months..

And now there’s one to be added to that list, according to the latest reports from Italian website Calcio Mercato.

The outlet claims that the Gunners are now interested in the RB Leipzig winger Emil Forsberg, who would be ‘among the top targets’ of Arsene Wenger’s wishlist.

But things shouldn’t be any for Arsenal to take him. Calcio Mercato claims there are two major issues with the signing now: First, Leipzig’s wish not to negotiate the sale of good players in the middle of the season; and second, Manchester United’s competition for the player.

The website recalls Manchester United had Forsberg as an option in the summer when the negotiations for Ivan Perisic didn’t work out, with José Mourinho even scouting the Swedish international once.

Forsberg renewed his contract with Leipzig a year ago, with his current deal running until 2022. Signed from Malmo in 2015 for €3.7m, the player is currently rated by Transfermarkt at €25m.
