As soon as Newcastle United were taken over, it was clear that Steve Bruce’s time at the helm was limited.
The Englishman, however, will be on the bench for the game against Tottenham Hotspur, which will be his 1000th as a manager, with him likely to be thanked for his services soon after.
Who replaces him, though, is still a mystery, but there have been many big names linked with the St James’ Park job.
Most recently, although it did stem from Danny Mills on social media, was José Mourinho, and the news has filtered through to Italy, where La Repubblica write about it.
They appear to give the stance from the former Manchester United manager in the process, stating the Portuguese ‘is fine with Roma and is a man of his word’.
Furthermore, ‘there are no offers at the moment able to make him change his mind from the three years of work planned with the Friedkins’.
That being said, ‘he smiles and thanks, as he did with Florentino Pérez at the end of May, when he was offered the Real Madrid bench’.
So, Mourinho isn’t currently interested in the Newcastle United job, but that doesn’t mean he might not be down the line.
Patience is a virtue and all that.
