Desperately trying to sign a third goalkeeper, Napoli’s first choice was Standard Liège’s Guillermo Ochoa.

Everything appeared to be going in the right direction, but the Serie A side aren’t all that interested in spending money up front for him, preferring the loan with a view to buy route.

Liège are asking for an ‘obligation to buy’, wanting to make money from losing their star goalkeeper, and that’s why Napoli could turn their attention to David Ospina.

Currently third in line at Arsenal after Bernd Leno and Petr Cech, the Colombian would be in a similar position in Italy, fighting for a spot with Alex Meret and Orestis Karnezis.

Gazzetta dello Sport explain it would take a lot to convince both Ospina and Unai Emery to agree to this move, especially since Napoli aren’t looking for this to be a long-term investment, but just a stop gap to help competition.

Once again, they’d be willing to sort out a loan with a view to buy, but would Arsenal really agree to that?

Doubtful.

And if Gazzetta’s word wasn’t enough, Il Mattino also corroborate the Ospina option, explaining the Gunners would prefer to see Ospina go permanently if he is to leave this summer.
