Carlo Ancelotti’s son, Davide Ancelotti, ‘had the option’ to return to Everton earlier this year before the appointment of Sean Dyche.
That’s according to Marca, who cover Ancelotti junior today ahead of him potentially joining Basel in his first senior role this summer.
The newspaper explains that Ancelotti’s future is ‘beginning to become clearer’ as the Italian has decided to start his career on his own, away from his father.
He’s been working alongside his famous parent for several years, taking up a physical trainer role at PSG before moving to Madrid, Bayern, Napoli and Everton before a return to Madrid as Carlo’s assistant manager.
That’s seen him ‘gaining experience’ in the Europe at some of the biggest clubs around and now he is ready to make the first step into management on his own.
He is the leading candidate to take the reins at Basel, one of Switzerland’s biggest teams and a regular in the Champions League.
They are not the first team to show an interest, though. According to Marca, he ‘had the opportunity’ to ‘take the reins’ at Everton in January when they were looking for a replacement for Frank Lampard.
His name was thrown into the mix among the various names at the time, with a report from Spain stating he was ‘thinking’ about the approach from those in charge at Goodison Park.
Ultimately it never came to fruition, though, and the operation ‘did not materialise’ as Everton went with Premier League experience and appointed Dyche instead.
Now he appears set to join Basel, which would be his first experience as a head coach and a ‘definitive step’ in his career in the dugout.
Should he make the move he will take over a side looking to start a new project so they can fight for the league once again after falling down to fifth this year and behind Young Boys in recent years.
