Barring a two-year spell at Real Madrid, Italian cult hero Antonio Cassano spent his entire playing career in his country.
The 38-year-old was a naturally talented player, scoring over 100 goals in 400 appearances in Serie A over the years, but now spends most of his time as a pundit on various Italian media outlets.
His most recent outing included a bit about Leeds United and the brand of football played by the Whites under the orders of Marcelo Beilsa.
Cassano gave an interview to Italian newspaper Il Secolo XIX, where he was candid enough to admit he watches only a few clubs, including two Premier League sides; Leeds and Manchester City.
“I watch a few games. Barcelona if they play Messi. Guardiola’s City because there is always something to learn,” he was quoted as saying by TuttoMercatoWeb.
“The Leeds of ‘Loco’ Bielsa because I adore them. In Serie A especially Atalanta. Gasperini is unique in Italy. He offers an excellent game with average players.”
Cassano wasn’t disciplined, both on and off the pitch, during his time playing career, which is why he didn’t live up to the hype he initial had when he broke onto the scene.
The former Italy international admitting he only watches a few matches but making sure to include Bielsa’s Leeds will be received as a compliment and appreciated by a large section of the supporters of the English club.
