Andreas Christensen lost his place at Chelsea after starting in four of the first five league matches this season.

Frank Lampard handed the centre-back four more appearances in all competitions, which included only one league start.

Chelsea parted ways with Lampard in January and replaced him with Thomas Tuchel. The German’s arrival has helped the 24-year-old regain his place.

The Denmark international is now a regular figure for the Blues under Tuchel, starting six of last seven league matches, and is currently happy with how things are going in his favour.

Christensen was forced to miss his side’s 2-0 win over Atlético Madrid on Wednesday due to illness, and prior to the Champions League clash between the two sides, Danish TV channel TV3sport interviewed the player.

The defender admitted a lack of regular game time in the first half of the season saw him consider leaving the Premier League side in the winter market.

“Yes, I know. Obviously, it looked pretty bad. There weren’t many minutes in sight, but I know how fast football can go,” Christensen said, as relayed by Tipsbladet.

“Now, thankfully, it went my way this time, but yes, during that difficult time I had the European Championship in mind because I want to play.

“But I also knew that if I came to think of it too much, then it could also have a bad effect if I then get the chance and have to be ready. Because I feel the responsibility is on me. If I’m not ready when the chance comes, it’s my own fault. So, I have always had the next match more in mind than the European Championship.”
