Manchester City lost to Chelsea in their first ever Champions League final last season.
The Citizens are again in contention to win Europe’s elite club competition this season. To do that, they must first dismiss Real Madrid.
Carlo Ancelotti and his men are travelling to England as they take on Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final on Tuesday.
Pep Guardiola’s side made it to the last four of the competition after overcoming Atlético Madrid in the previous round. Ahead of the clash between the English champions and Los Blancos, Sport managed to interview Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
The Spain international was quizzed on what is the ‘great danger’ with Real Madrid. Responding to that, he said: “We know perfectly well how they play and their experience in this competition, but they also know how to suffer and wait until their time comes to hurt you. It is their great virtue.
“[They] may not dominate you for the 90 minutes, but they are always dangerous. We have to be alert and make the best of the first leg at home. I think we are better, but we have to show it on the pitch.”
Karim Benzema has been the standout player for Real Madrid this season, managing 39 goals and 13 assists from 40 matches. His hat-tricks against both Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in the knockout stages helped the Spanish giants make it to the semi-final of the Champions League.
On facing the Frenchman, Rodri said: “He is in the best moment of his career. I’ve played against him several times and you notice that he understands the game like no one else and makes the team improve in everything, and obviously the key goals he has scored this season.
“You see him play and you think ‘wow’. He makes his team feel comfortable on the ball… as Ancelotti says, he is the perfect modern striker. We are going to be watching him, like the whole team.”
