Ipswich Town, Southampton and Middlesbrough are all tussling to sign the same player, reports L’Equipe on Monday morning.

Following Leeds United losing the play-off final to Southampton in the summer, Glen Kamara left Elland Road and moved to French football. He signed for Rennes, with Leeds United getting around €10m from the transfer, and was expected to be an important player for the Ligue 1 side.

In reality, the 29-year-old hasn’t been able to do that, and has had a frustrating time in France. He’s been losing prominence as the season has progressed, and gone from being brought off in matches to occasionally being brought on, and then largely sitting on the substitute bench.

L’Equipe explain that despite all of that, Kamara remains popular in English football, and that’s seen Ipswich Town, Southampton and Middlesbrough move forward for his signing this month.

Trabzonspor are also keen on the midfielder and there’s no indication whether Rennes would be looking to part with him on a loan basis or as a permanent transfer.

Perhaps a loan with an option is the way to go for Ipswich, Southampton or Middlesbrough, with Kamara having a contract lasting until 2028.
