Reports this week revealed that Arsenal and Manchester United are both following €25m rated Brazilian wonderkid Gabriel Veron.

The 18-year-old is expected to be one of the next talents to move from Brazil to Europe’s top leagues, so it isn’t a surprise to see him being linked to big clubs already.

Veron was promoted to Palmeiras’ first team at the end of last year, and even though the club have been full of stars, the wonderkid soon found a place in the starting eleven.

The winger has been showing great skills, speed and composure, and his decision-making was decisive for several of Palmeiras’ goals this season. With eight goals and three assists in 26 games, he’s now one of the team’s best assets in the fight for the Brazilian League and the Copa Libertadores.

Most criticism from Palmeiras fans is towards his consistency, as he can spend far too much time without making a big play in decisive games. That’s something the teenager would definitely have to improve, especially if moving to a league of bigger intensity.

Veron’s career is managed by Fabio Mello, who’s also the agent of Manchester United midfielder Fred. The representative has a partnership with former Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva, who can help when opening doors to Premier League clubs.

Since Veron has also been succeeding for Brazil’s youth ranks, there’s no doubt that big clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United would be checking on him in international tournaments.

When seeing Veron’s name, many people think he’s Argentine, but there’s actually a curious story about that.

His family had a neighbour who was a big fan of the Argentine midfielder Sebastian Verón and wanted to have a son with his name. However, he had three daughters and never a boy.

So when Gabriel Veron’s mother announced she was pregnant and that she wasn’t sure about the name, the neighbour asked the couple to choose Veron. The youngster now claims to be happy with it, especially after seeing some plays of Sebastian on Youtube.
