Although Manchester United keep a scout in Portugal to watch several games a week, it seems they did something different on Monday.

According to newspaper A Bola, the Red Devils had two emissaries watching Benfica’s 6-0 win over Marítimo at the Estádio da Luz.

One of the scouts was João Ferreira, a Portuguese official who’s used to watching Benfica games, and those of Sporting and Porto. But A Bola says that this time, he was joined by Simon Wells, who’s responsible for the job in Scandinavia.

Still, A Bola can’t really say why Manchester United did that. They mention that João Félix is ‘one of the players with the biggest market in Portugal’, and the Red Devils want to show they are watching the Eagles’ squad.

With the summer market approaching, perhaps the Old Trafford side are taking the final decision on going for a Benfica player, and needed a second opinion before moving.

But that’s just us guessing here, so let’s see if this story develops from now on.
