Starting the season rather well with Marcelo Bielsa in charge, Leeds’ new look under Andrea Radrizzani could have been very different after the owner admitted to interviewing the likes of Claudio Ranieri and Roberto Martinez.

The former of the pair is currently without a job, but turned down the chance to manage the Championship side as he was waiting to find out if he would succeed Gian Piero Ventura at the helm of the Italy national team.

That eventually went to Roberto Mancini, and Ranieri is now going from game to game, watching football, staying in the loop and giving interviews here and there, most recently speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, who asked him about Leeds’ current good form and the man who took the job he was offered.

He said: “I’m happy for Bielsa, he’s a nice guy and a student of the game. I wish for him to bring Leeds back to the Premier League”.

Since taking over, the Argentinian has led his new team to the top of the Championship, winning four out of a possible five games, drawing the other away to Swansea.

Would Leeds have started as strongly under Claudio Ranieri? No one knows, but at least Radrizzani and the Elland Road faithful aren’t regretting the appointment so far.
