With the international break now nearly upon us, numerous players will be looking to stake their claims for the European Championships in the summer, with one of those being Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann.
The Austria keeper has established himself as the number one at Vicarage Road over the last few months after replacing Ben Foster when he was struck by injury.
He’s impressed, too, with just nine goals conceded and eight cleans sheets in 15 Championship games, a record worth bragging about.
That’s seen him called up to Austria’s squad for this international break, and according to Sky Sport Austria, the call-up represents a ‘great opportunity’ for the Watford man.
They explain his first appearance in Franco Foda’s squad has been long coming, with the Austria boss having kept an eye on Bachmann for some time.
He, though, hadn’t used him thus far due to a lack of appearances, something that has now changed as he’s showing ‘strong performances’ for Watford.
Foda considers him a ‘penalty area presence’ and ‘confident cross catcher’ and thus wants to test him out in his side ahead of the Euros.
Thus, if he ‘uses his first chance’ well over the coming international break, he will be one of the ‘tight favourites’ to be his country’s number one this summer and continue an impressive turnaround this season.
