Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal has hinted Aston Villa’s Anwar El Ghazi will be given his chance to impress in the next international break.

El Ghazi was not a part of Van Gaal’s first international squad for this break, despite having enjoyed a strong start to the campaign at Villa Park.

Indeed, he has been missing from the national team since making his debut in October 2015, with those two appearances against Czech Republic and Kazakhstan his only caps so far.

That is something that has been questioned in the Netherlands, with former international Marciano Vink questioning how the Aston Villa man continues to be overlooked despite a lack of cover on the wings.

He argued that, coupled with El Ghazi’s displays for Aston Villa in the Premier League and the fact the 26-year-old would fit in perfectly under Van Gaal’s fitness heavy regime, should mean he’s given his chance to impress.

It now seems the Netherlands boss has heeded those words, and he and his team plan to take a look at the forward as a result.

“The scouts of the KNVB have an overview of all Dutch players abroad,” MSN report him saying.

“In the coming weeks, we will see if there are players who fit the vision. So we can clean up the list. And from there we can broaden our selection.

“For Steven Berghuis, we have no shadow players now. We will therefore look at Anwar El Ghazi of Aston Villa.”
