There’s been some annoyance among Newcastle United supporters about the lack of business, specifically incoming, at the club during the summer window.

Their move for Marc Guehi never materialised into a transfer, they did manage to sign another centre back in Lloyd Kelly, with the defender having already established himself in Eddie Howe’s side this season.

The player was a great value addition for Newcastle, arriving on a free transfer after his exit from Bournemouth.

He’s represented by Epic Sports and Andrea Pellegatti, who was an intermediary in the deal that took Kelly to Newcastle, has spoken about the move.

Pellegatti told Radio Sportiva how important Eddie Howe was in sealing the transfer for the Magpies, as relayed by TMW:

“Kelly had several Italian teams interested: expiring, left-footed centre-back, in the prime of his career, capable of playing left-back.

“Surely the decisive aspect was the fact that the coach Howe had already trained him, he was his mentor at Bournemouth.”

Before the move to St. James’ Park had come about, Kelly was linked with the likes of Juventus and AC Milan and they kept tabs on his situation for months, hoping for a free transfer.

They didn’t have Howe, though, and that has been keen for Newcastle United.
