No independent intermediary was negotiating between West Ham United and Celta Vigo for Maxi Gomez, Sport Witness has been informed.
The Premier League club were interested in taking the Uruguayan, something which we covered earlier this month.
West Ham were looking at the South American due to the uncertainty around Marko Arnautovic’s future, who had been linked with a move to China.
The former Stoke City man ended the speculation around his future after deciding to continue with the Hammers.
Gomez was still linked with Manuel Pellegrini’s side and El Desmarque in Spain reported that an intermediary was trying to exploit a ‘bad relationship’ between the La Liga outfit and Stellar Group, the agency that represents the 22-year-old, to get a cut, if the transfer goes through.
However, there was no involvement of any intermediary to discuss the English outfit’s interest in the player.
A source has told Sport Witness that Gomez will not leave the Spanish club on the final day of the transfer window, something that had also been reported by the aforementioned outlet.
Gomez’s current deal at Celta runs down in 2022 and has a release clause of €50m.
