Vincenzo Morabito, a well known intermediary in Italian football, has a tendency to pop up when a deal involving West Ham and an Italian club doesn’t go well.
Said to be part of the reason why Simone Zaza ended up with the Hammers, the negotiator was very critical of the London club after the striker struggled in England, yet he appears to have been involved in yet another deal with them, or at least knows about it: Pedro Obiang to Fiorentina.
As you all know, that didn’t go through, with West Ham supposedly pulling the plug at the last minute, and Morabito apparently knows the real reason why.
Speaking to Radio Sportiva, relayed by Viola News, he said: “Fiorentina had offered €10m and someone had let them know that would be enough to close the deal, but in reality West Ham wanted €18m. The deal blew up through the player’s and the Italian club’s delusion.”
Seeing as this is the same man who said that Felipe Anderson’s transfer from Lazio to West Ham ‘won’t get done’, we’re not sure whether to take this information with a pinch of salt or not.
It wouldn’t exactly be the first time the Hammers were especially stubborn in negotiations, would it?
Either way, Obiang seems to be staying for now.
