AS Roma are eyeing up a deal for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his squad in January.
That’s according to Corriere Dello Sport, who cover how the Serie A side are planning for the winter window.
They explain that despite being on an international break, the work doesn’t stop at the club, and Tiago Pinto is working to improve the squad.
He and Mourinho see the January transfer window as ‘crucial’ for their plans for the season, and it is set to be a ‘particularly busy’ period for the club.
In terms of the latter, a ‘new opportunity’ has arisen in England in the form of Arsenal defender Chambers.
He can play as both a centre-back and right-back, so would suit Mourinho perfectly and could be available as he isn’t playing under Mikel Arteta and it’s stated he would like to change in January.
His four appearances so far is too little for a player trying to make a comeback, and ‘intermediaries’ have offered him to Roma.
He can reportedly arrive in ‘particularly advantageous conditions’ given that his current contract with Arsenal expires in the summer.
Pinto is not convinced of the deal at the moment but is observing the situation and is yet to rule out the possibility of making a move once January rolls around.
