Atlético Madrid have ‘welcomed’ the rumours of Arsenal being interested in Alvaro Morata as they look to get rid of the Spaniard this summer.

That’s according to Super Deporte, who say the Spanish side are pleased there is competition to Juventus for the striker.

They explain that Juventus are keen to sign Morata, who is currently on loan at the club, on a permanent basis, but they do not want to pay the €35m purchase option included in the deal.

That’s because they’ve already paid €20m for his two-year loan, so they want to lower that clause, something Atlético are not willing to do.

Thus, they have ‘welcomed’ the rumours suggesting Arsenal are keen on him, too, as that gives them another avenue to explore.

The recent suggestion has been that they could pay the €35m Atlético are looking for, and Super Deporte say Mikel Arteta’s side consider that something of a bargain.

They believe Morata is a ‘very interesting player’ to complete their forward line and are ‘convinced’ that for that amount, they will not be able to find anyone else on the market that has the striker’s ‘quality’.

That is up for debate, given the striker has hardly set the world alight in recent years, but it seems Arsenal are keen nonetheless, something Atlético are more than pleased about.
