On Wednesday, Manchester City officially announced the signing of the Palmeiras starlet Gabriel Jesus. Although the club didn’t state how much they paid for the player, it’s a consensus both in the British and the Brazilian media that the deal cost the English side €32m.
Now Jorge Nícola, from ESPN and Yahoo, claims to know all the bonuses that City are set to pay in case Gabriel achieves some goals included in his contract.
Palmeiras would receive €3m in case Gabriel wins the Ballon d’Or or €1m if he makes the three-names shortlist. There’s also a €1m bonus if Manchester City win the Champions League.
Nícola also says that Palmeiras kept 5% of the player’s rights, which we all know isn’t allowed when a player joins a Premier League club. He probably mistook it for 5% of a future sale, which is what Globo Esporte claims.
The always reliable Paulo Vinícius Coelho also said on Fox Sports that Palmeiras would receive more bonuses in case Gabriel becomes the top striker of the season or if City win the Premier League. However, he didn’t mention how much each of these bonuses would be.
