Newcastle United are ‘pressing’ to sign Real Sociedad defender Iván Fresneda in January.
That’s according to Tutto Juve, who explain the Magpies would be ‘very interested’ in acquiring the right-back’s signature.
Newcastle will have to compete with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund to secure the 18-year-old’s services.
The Spain U19 international has a deal until 2025, but the report states he could leave the La Liga side in the current window.
Kieran Trippier, 32, is the first choice right-back at Newcastle, with Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth as his back-ups. Manquillo has struggled to impress, while the Swede has been out of action since last August with a serious injury.
Eddie Howe is looking to add quality and depth to the right-back position and the addition of Fresneda would not only help in that regard, but also provide the Tyneside club a long-term successor to Trippier.
The opportunity to join Newcastle could be a ‘attractive option’ for the Valladolid player. Tutto Juve state that it remains to be seen whether the English club can come up with an acceptable offer to sign Fresneda in January.
These factors make Newcastle a ‘difficult competitor’ for Juve to sign the fullback.
