This week’s edition of German football magazine Kicker has an interview with Hoffenheim’s Mark Uth and it was inevitable they’d ask the player about recent reports of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton.
Uth hasn’t been afraid of talking about the rumour and told Kicker: “There is interest, nothing more. It is definitely an acknowledgment. But I now focus on football.”
Tottenham and Southampton have regularly shared transfer targets since Mauricio Pochettino left the latter for the former. Pochettino took some of Southampton’s recruitment staff with him to Tottenham, and that’s how the clubs seem to share targets more often than mere chance would allow.
It may also mean that when a transfer rumour is being cultivated, the two can be plucked out of thin air as a pair.
Uth is a 25 year old striker, and in 633 Bundesliga minutes so far this season, missing a chunk with injury, he’s managed 5 goals and one assist. Last season he managed 8 Bundesliga goals.
The footballer’s contract with Hoffenheim runs until June 2018, and it’s around about now that the club will need to push for a renewal, or consider a sale in the summer.
Interest from Tottenham and Southampton will certainly help Uth’s case should he require a pay rise.
