RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan has ended up on Liverpool’s radar this summer.
The 24-year-old made 42 appearances for the German club last season, while operating as a centre-back and on the right side of defence.
‘There is interest’ in the versatile defender from Liverpool and Atlético Madrid. That’s at last what Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze claims, and he took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide more on this case.
He says Arne Slot’s side and Los Rojiblancos have expressed their interest in the player, without making any offers or holding concrete talks to try and sign him.
The Frenchman’s deal lasts until 2027 and the journalist says Leipzig could possibly sell him for a fee of around €40-45m.
Simakan joined Leipzig from RC Strasbourg in 2021, and is happy with his life in Germany. At the same time, he ‘can imagine a transfer’, likely to Liverpool or the La Liga side in this window. The Bundesliga side, for their part, would like to retain the versatile player.
He hasn’t made his debut for France so far. On May 24th, Bild stated Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United are in the picture, and a move to the Premier League could help Simakan fulfil his dream of representing the national team.
