Real Madrid have denied claims that they are willing to pay €80m to sign Julián Álvarez from Manchester City, despite reports claiming otherwise.

That’s according to Bernabeu Digital, who claim they have received word from the Spanish giants regarding their apparent interest in the Argentine World Cup winner.

Álvarez has continued to shine for Manchester City this season, even showing a development in his game that’s seen him fill the void left behind by Kevin De Bruyne, who is out injured.

His performances and development have earned him plenty of praise and led to reports in Spain that Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on him.

They still need to find a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who departed for Saudi Arabia this summer and was not replaced, with Joselu the only attacking arrival for Madrid instead.

He’s not considered a long-term option by any means and reports had suggested Madrid were eyeing Álvarez as that, with it claimed in South America that they would even be willing to pay €80m to sign him.

BD follow that up, though, and say that ‘there is interest but’ the information which has been published is wide of the mark.

According to their information, Real Madrid have neither contacted the Manchester City player or his entourage at this moment in time. Furthermore, Real Madrid aren’t going to be spending €80m on him and ‘deny this figure’ to the outlet.

They insist that while it is true that Álvarez has been on Real Madrid’s radar since his time at River Plate, they have not made a move for him, at least for now.

A move in the future has not been ruled out by any means but for now he is simply one of more option among several and any suggestion they’re ready to move and for a big price at that, is wide of the mark.
