It only took a day, but Mauro Icardi could be on his way out from Inter Milan following this weekend’s events, at least according to Corriere dello Sport.
Saying some not very nice things in his autobiography about the club’s ultras, who have, in turn, accused him of lying and asked the club to revoke the captaincy from him, the Argentinean striker topped it all off by having a poor game, missing a penalty, against Cagliari, with Inter losing 3-1.
Already of interest to a few clubs over the summer, the former Sampdoria starlet’s latest controversy could be the final one, even if he has only just renewed his contract with the club with a release clause of €110m.
Corriere explain that rumours of the likes of Chelsea’s Diego Costa or Michy Batshuayi gracing the San Siro pitch ‘don’t appear to be folklore’ anymore, considering the situation Icardi has put himself in.
They even go as far as saying it wouldn’t be too far fetched if Napoli, who tried for him in the summer, came back in June 2017 with an offer of €40m to try and open negotiations with Inter Milan.
Batshuayi has already been linked with a move to Italy as he struggles to get game time at Chelsea at the moment, mostly due to Diego Costa’s form, but a transfer away from Stamford Bridge still remains unlikely.
As for the Hispano-Brazilian, there’s only one way we can see him joining Inter Milan next summer, and that’s if Diego Simeone returns to his former club, something he’s admitted he would like to do one day.
This remains speculation, but if Icardi’s situation at the Serie A club worsens over the coming months, this could very much become a reality, especially if Frank De Boer fails to turn things around after this weekend’s result.
