Arsenal have been linked with a move for Arthur Melo for much of the winter transfer market.

Shortly after the rumour had got off the ground, it was made clear in both Brazil and Italy that the midfielder would be keen on the move.

Juventus wanted a longer loan than what Arsenal were offering, with the Gunners originally looking for a deal until the end of the current season. Then they could try out the Brazilian and see if they wanted to try and commit themselves for longer.

Arthur also wanted something longer term, and it was reported that Arsenal were considering the 18-month option seriously, however, Juventus still needed to get a replacement in.

RMC’s Loic Tanzi now reports that Mikel Arteta’s side have moved into place for a possible Bruno Guimaraes transfer.

It was reported on Tuesday evening that Newcastle United have made an offer for the Lyon player, for between €36m and €40m, and now Tanzi suggests that Arsenal could rival the Magpies for the midfielder.

Guimaraes is seen as an alternative to Arthur, although he’s clearly a bigger signing.

Tanzi says it’s now going to be an ‘intense’ final week for Lyon.
