Victor Lindelof’s ‘imminent’ transfer from Benfica to Manchester United has had many elements of a packed transfer saga.

There’s been the scouting beforehand, claims building in Portugal over several months, a strange situation with the price, and even Lindelof signing a Manchester United shirt when back in Sweden for Christmas.

What’s been missing to make this a truly modern transfer saga has been a social media hint. Well, Portuguese newspaper Record believe the defender’s girlfriend has now provided that.

Maja pictured the pair at an airport with the caption: ‘Two years since I moved to Lisbon today. Best years of my life’

Record called it a ‘a message with a farewell tone’, and pointed out that it led Benfica fans to beg the pair to stay.

There’s maybe something in this, and then again there’s maybe not, but the Lindelof to Manchester United saga wouldn’t have been complete without a social media story.
