Two days ago, Manchester United completed the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
The duo joined Lisandro Martínez, Antony and André Onana as players who have reunited with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
Thursday’s edition of Sport says this list could grow as former Ajax player Frenkie De Jong is back on Manchester United’s radar.
The Red Devils tried to sign the Barcelona player in 2022, but he refused to leave. They are now expected, at least by Sport, to make another attempt.
It’s claimed Manchester United ‘will spare no effort’ to sign the midfielder this summer. The La Liga side are ready to sell the Netherlands international, if there’s an offer of around €60m.
Sport makes no mention of whether the 27-year-old is willing to join the Premier League side in this window. However, they do state his signing would be ‘icing on the cake’ for Ten Hag’s side.
The Dutchman suffered an ankle injury in April and is still on the sidelines. He struggled with multiple injuries in recent years, and it wouldn’t make sense for Manchester United to spend €60m on him.
Therefore, it would be a dream scenario for Barca if Manchester United decide to spend big on De Jong, and the Catalan media are likely getting carried away with themselves.
Earlier this month, claims from the UK mentioned De Jong as an option for the Red Devils. It feels like Sport are picking up on that to try and push him towards Manchester United.
