PSV Eindhoven will open talks with Manchester United over a deal for Cody Gakpo, but only once the World Cup is over.
That’s according to journalist Marco Timmer, who insists that it is not a foregone conclusion the youngster will be on the move.
Gakpo has been in fine form for PSV again this season, firmly establishing himself as the star of the show once again in the Eredivisie.
He’s carried his form in the World Cup with the Netherlands, where he scored the opening goal of the 2-0 win over Senegal on Monday, and also scored the opener against Ecuador today.
That report claimed that Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is a big fan of the Dutchman and is now looking for the club to sanction a deal and sign Gakpo as the replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
The suggestion was that Gakpo leaving is pretty much already decided but Timmer insists that is not the case.
“The focus for now is still entirely on the World Cup,” he is quoted as saying.
“This will be followed by talks between the PSV striker’s management and top clubs of the calibre of Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
“(It’s) certainly not a foregone conclusion that he will go.”
