Manchester United continue to monitor the situation around Victor Osimhen and could revive an idea to swap him with Rasmus Hojlund.
That’s according to La Repubblica, relayed by Calcio Napoli 24, who cover the situation around Osimhen today and suggest Manchester United haven’t completely abandoned the idea of signing him this summer.
Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli this summer, with it widely reported in Italy that he is ready to move on and perhaps make the step to the next level in his career.
Several of the bigger sides in Europe are keeping a close eye on the situation, although Napoli’s asking price for their star man has seemingly stopped any club from truly getting matters started yet.
Manchester United have been credited with an interest in the last few months, with it even, somewhat oddly, suggested that they would be willing to offer cash plus Hojlund to try and get the Nigerian to Old Trafford this summer.
That idea was quickly dismissed at the time but La Repubblica state that it’s not completely dead yet, even though Manchester United have also been talking to Joshua Zirkzee and his entourage.
“As decided some time ago, Victor Osimhen will leave Napoli in this transfer window. PSG and Chelsea are always paying close attention to the Nigerian striker, but Manchester United also continues to monitor his situation,” they report.
“Yesterday, however, United had direct contact with Joshua Zirkzee’s agent Summit which helped the English club understand the cost of the operation, including salary, commissions and clause to be paid to Bologna but an agreement must be found for the commissions, which is currently holding up the negotiations.
“In recent months, United have tried to convince Napoli for Osimhen, offering money plus the price tag of Rasmus Hojlund.
“A proposal that could be resubmitted, but Antonio Conte’s goal remains Romelu Lukaku. Napoli’s attack market will start after the sale of Osimhen, with many names proposed but with only one great goal: the Belgian goal scorer.”
