On March 18th, we covered reports from Spain and Belgium that everything indicates Barcelona’s lias Akhomach will end up at Leeds United in the summer.
It was also explained Club Brugge, who are showing interest in the 18-year-old, are starting to give up on the possibility of signing him.
Thursday’s Mundo Deportivo has a report on the teenager, in which they mention Leeds.
The newspaper focuses on the Spain U19 international and Víctor Barberá, who have deals expiring in June. The latter is a target for the Jupiler Pro League side.
Their contract situations have not impacted their opportunities with Barca’s B team. Mundo state the duo are important for Barca B head coach Rafa Márquez, even though they have decided not to renew their deals.
From the Camp Nou, they understand that if Akhomach and Barberá go to Leeds and Club Brugge respectively, doors could be opened for those youngsters who opted to continue and potentially make it to the first team.
In other words, Akhomach, who has featured three times for the Blaugrana’s first team, could join Leeds for free in the summer and this would give opportunities to other young talents at the Catalan club.
Barca wanted to renew Akhomach’s deal but the report states the desire ‘has to be reciprocal’.
That isn’t the case here and therefore, Barca ‘do not want’ cases like Akhomach. This could please Leeds in their pursuit to sign the winger.
