Borussia Dortmund are very unlikely to try and bring Jadon Sancho back to the club from Manchester United, as it would require an “insane amount of money”.

That’s according to Sky Germany journalists Patrick Berger and Jesco von Eichmann, who have covered the potential move on the Dortmund podcast, Auffe Süd.

Sancho has been back in the headlines this week as it appears Chelsea may not pay to sign him permanently from Manchester United, instead accepting a fine to avoid doing so.

Those reports were followed by a claim in Germany this week that Sancho dreams of a return to Borussia Dortmund, where he spent four years between 2017 and 2021 and managed 53 goals and 64 assists in 158 games, including a loan spell at the club last season.

He’s never managed to live up to the expectations he created during his time there, with his spells at Chelsea and Manchester United failing to live up to expectations.

A return to Dortmund is reportedly seen as ideal, particularly by Sancho, but the Sky Germany duo insist that is very unlikely to happen, simply because of the finances that would be required.

“We can’t confirm that yet; we’re not that far along in our discussions yet,” said Berger.

“What we know is that Jadon always looks to Dortmund; he had his best years there. But the question is, even if he wants to go: What does BVB want?

“He’s not Borussia Dortmund’s priority, and certainly not his position. You don’t have a need for that position right now. The purchase option is around €32-35m.”

“(There’s also) a salary in the double-digit million range,” added Eichmann.

“It’s not a hot topic at the moment because it would obviously be an insane amount of money. Of course, the situation surrounding Jadon remains interesting and will be monitored,” concluded Berger.
