Chris Wood rattling the cage to get his move to Burnley brings Pierre-Michel Lasogga very much back into the picture.
Lasogga had been close to a Leeds United move, but the presence of Wood was a worry, with the Hamburg outcast not wanting to end up on the bench.
One barrier that could have blocked Lasogga to Leeds United is injury to Nicolai Muller.
The Hamburg forward scored the winning goal for his club on Saturday and whilst celebrating tried to turn around doing a ‘helicopter’. Unfortunately for Muller, and Hamburg, the player’s knee gave way and he’s now out for seven months with a cruciate injury.
It’s just typical Hamburg, whatever can go wrong for the German club often finds a way of doing so, both on and off the pitch.
With Muller out for much of the season, a new opportunity for Lasogga could have presented itself, but Bild make clear it’s very unlikely.
Lasogga is currently fifth choice at Hamburg, Bild point out, and watched the match in the stands on Saturday. Hamburg could even bring someone in, which would make Lasogga’s long term future even more out of the first team picture.
Should Hamburg wish to add a player, then it makes getting rid of Lasogga’s wages, or a percentage of them, even more urgent. That could help Leeds United, especially as there doesn’t seem to be a queue of other clubs coming forward.
If Lasogga thought Muller’s injury was a way back in, Bild suggest he’s mistaken, and the injury won’t be a barrier for Leeds United.
