Newcastle United star Miguel Almiron will not be joining the Paraguayan national team in the international break.

The player’s absence was today announced by manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto, who in a press conference, revealed the squad which will be facing Chile on the 27th of March.

The coach claimed that Almiron picked up an injury while training with Newcastle, and is now set to work on his recovery.

“Unfortunately Miguel Almiron was injured yesterday in practice, yesterday the club sent us the medical information. We didn’t think it was necessary for him to come, besides, he already knows us,” said Schelotto (via Popular).

As reported by Versus, Almiron was initially in that list, but his absence was known ‘in the past few hours’, when Newcastle sent the Paraguayan FA a report which said he had a tear which would sideline him for around three weeks.

That’s why Paraguay were supposed to have 26 players in the squad and will now only count on 25. They’re set to miss their biggest star in this friendly against Chile.

Playing for Newcastle this season, Almiron has 11 goals and three assists in 32 appearances. That makes him their top scorer this season, and Eddie Howe will certainly hope to have him ready for the match against Manchester United on the 2nd of April.
