Barcelona will look to sign a forward in the January transfer window, and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling is their number one target.
That’s according to Deportes COPE, who say the recent injury to Sergio Aguero has forced Barcelona into a change of strategy for the winter window.
Aguero is set to miss up to three months of the season after recently leaving a game due to heart problems, which were later diagnosed as a heart rhythm rate disorder.
Further tests are set to be carried out over the coming months and weeks, with a three-month spell the positive outlook at this moment in time.
It will leave Barcelona without one of their strikers, and they plan to try and fix the situation in January with a signing. They want a forward ‘with goals’, and Sterling is the player they ‘like the most’ in that regard.
They held negotiations with Manchester City over a deal in the summer and have retained that interest since then.
Those negotiations didn’t reach a positive conclusion, and now the board will have to reach a ‘consensus’ with their new manager, likely Xavi, on the profile of the player they want.
Reports elsewhere, though, have indicated that Xavi is a fan of Sterling, so it seems we can expect rumours about the Manchester City player to intensify in the lead up to January.
