Out with an ankle injury since half-time against Burnley, Rodrigo Bentancur could be in line to start against Everton on Monday evening.
Doing so would see Antonio Conte rush the Uruguay international back, since he sat out the game against Leeds and didn’t train last week, but the midfielder is back in training on Monday.
That is, at least, what Diego Alonso, Bentancur’s national team manager, said on Monday when speaking to 100% Deporte on Sport890.
Relayed by Sebas Giovanelli, the 46-year-old was asked about the Tottenham midfielder, who was named in the list of 45 players pre-selected for the upcoming Uruguay games against Peru and Chile later this month.
He said: “The information we have is that Rodrigo Bentancur is today starting to train with his teammates.”
If that is the case, it could be that Conte puts him on the bench, but with a week or so out and little training in his legs, a start against Everton might be too much to ask.
While Spurs fans have been screaming for his return, throwing him at the deep end on Monday night could end up with him re-injuring himself, which wouldn’t help anyone.
