Earlier on Friday we covered claims from Turkey that Besiktas have opened talks around the signing of Olivier Giroud from Chelsea.

Besiktas have been looking for a new striker for what seems like an eternity and have been linked with every conceivable target out there, and some inconceivable ones too.

The Turkish media are often overly optimistic about the will of players to join top clubs in the country. Coupled with this is a matching optimism that Premier League clubs would be ready to negotiate reasonable deals, whether that be on a loan or permanent basis.

In this case it seems that optimism is once again misplaced.

Le10 Sport have taken steps to talk down the rumour, reporting on Friday afternoon that ‘some indiscretions’ have informed them Giroud is ‘absolutely not’ interested in joining the Super Lig club.

Will that be enough to stop the stories coming from Turkey? Almost certainly not, it’ll be hands over eyes and fingers in ears.
