Andy Carroll has told Ligue 1’s official website that he’s pleased with Eddie Howe’s role in Newcastle United’s rise since he took charge at St James’ Park in November 2021.
The striker had two spells at the Tyneside club and in his last spell, he left them as a free agent at the end of the 2020/21 season. This was months before the manager joined the Magpies, after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund invested in the club.
Howe helped Newcastle to a 11th place finish in the 2021/22 season before guiding them to a top four finish last season, which also helped them return to the Champions League.
The Premier League side sealed a 4-1 victory over the Paris Saint-Germain and these two sides will face each other again at Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
Carroll had a chat with the Ligue 1’s website to preview the European clash, and this is when he hailed Howe and Newcastle’s recent transfer business.
“It’s incredible to see the evolution of the club… Two years ago, I was there, with players who are now playing in the Champions League like Jacob Murphy, Sean Longstaff… The club has strengthened superbly in recent seasons and manager Eddie Howe has also played a key role in the club’s turnaround,” he said.
“I am still in contact with my teammates from the time and I will do everything to go support them at the Parc des Princes when they play PSG.”
Carroll joined second division French club Amiens SC on a free transfer in the last window and has scored two goals from 13 games this season.
