Leeds United failed signing Bamba Dieng in the summer window even after they agreed a deal with Marseille.

The Ligue 1 side assured the Whites the forward would be moving to Elland Road, but the transfer collapsed after OGC Nice made a late attempt to hijack the deal.

Leeds walked away after Nice made an approach for the forward, but the French club also failed to sign him.

Dieng has not played for Marseille this season but made two appearances for the national team during the international break. Due to his current situation at the club, L’Equipe say he ‘sometimes cried with incomprehension and rage’.

The player returned to Marseille yesterday after Senegal coach Aliou Cissé restored his confidence. Dieng needs to feature more to make sure his place in the national team is not threatened.

At the end of the summer window, the tensions were high between Dieng and Marseille due to the failed transfers to Leeds and Nice. A month later, the situation is no longer the same and the club’s sporting director, Javier Ribalta, is handling this case.

The newspaper explains Ribalta has sent a message to the attacker about ‘getting closer’ to Marseille coach, Igor Tudor, and start discussing his role at the club.

L’Equipe end their report by stating, ‘…the time when Dieng’s name will reappear on a score sheet is surely coming soon. The day of his return to the field, the Senegalese, vengeful, promised his relatives a performance they would remember. While waiting for the question of a departure to rest again in January.’
