Chelsea’s attempt to sign Rafael Leão towards the end of the last window has already been confirmed by AC Milan chief Paolo Maldini.
The Blues’ efforts to take the forward away from the San Siro were unsuccesful, but that hasn’t put them off.
On Wednesday, former Italian director Fabio Cordella stated that Chelsea have made an offer to the 23-year-old. He also stressed it will be difficult for Stefano Pioli’s side to retain their star in the long run.
The Portugal international’s current deal runs down in 2024 and the club have a desire to tie him to a new contract.
TuttoMercatoWeb state there are clubs, ‘including Chelsea’, lurking in the background to sign Leão. They have also relayed a comment made by Maldini regarding the player’s contract situation.
“Leão is a raw talent, he arrived when he was 20 and I remember how I felt at that age. These kids come very young and need support,” Maldini told Amazon Prime Video.
“If there is a willingness on the part of both parties to renew? There is to renew him, as well as Bennacer and Kalulu, then you have to sit at the table and negotiate. I believe that Milan are the ideal club for the complete development of Rafa’s career.”
